CINQUE ISLAND

North and South Cinque Islands, two spectacular island pieces connected by sandbars called ‘Manners Strait’, are seen to be believed. The sand bar between the south and north cinque was destroyed by Tsunami in 2004 but has since reformed. Away from human habitation, this destination in the Andamans is an ideal getaway. You will definitely be spell bound by the serenity of the island. North Cinque can be visited with prior permission of the forest department.

If you want to visit Cinque Island you need to start early morning, the rising sun will blur your view of land with its glare and the water with its reflection as you will get the first view of Cinque Island. Once you land in the island you get to unveil a perfect spectacle : a long stretch of sand separating the island in two lush hills outlined by giant trees carried by sinuous trunks. The water is splendid, the bay playing with different shades of blue and green, from the coral heads scattered across it to the perfect pool on white sand lining the beach.

The passage between North and South Cinque, covered in reef will answer your wildest snorkeling and fishing hopes : a vibrant underwater life. Thousands of  small reef fish, huge schools of parrots and surgeons, crayfish, hump head wrasses and parrots, giant groupers and trevallies, sharks, and some times a manta ray may acknowledge you with its gracious swimming style, and glide away.

If you are fortunate you may get rewarded with yet another blissful surprise : a herd of deer feeding on the grass, meters away. This is as close to raw nature as you can expect; there are no washrooms, changing rooms, or places to sit.
